A new name, the same purpose with some new flavors
A message from the Pacer Life editorial desk about the future of the section and why we're still A&E

Issue date: 8/26/08 Section: Pace of Life
As the Summer comes to a close and the Fall semester begins, new opportunities for academic achievement greet us with a new yearly workload and new goals to be met. Perhaps even more important is that our academic year promises us many new opportunities for fun and enlightenment.
While in a small town like Martin, where the most often heard complaint is that there is "nothing to do," we here at the A&E desk hope to show you that there's more than meets the eye for all of those desperate to relieve the stresses of academia.
This year in A&E, anything goes. While we will continue to cover campus events, we also intend to keep the morale of the student body in good shape as we display opportunities for fun and recreation in places that many would not suspect.
In addition, we are going to aggressively focus on the artistic and creative achievements of our fellow students who are entitled to and deserve coverage for their accomplishments in the humanities and arts majors. Art does, after all, come first in A&E, and we encourage all students from all majors to make their creative accomplishments known to us so that we can help make your creative accomplishments known on a greater scale. It is our belief that all talent should be recognized.
With that said, we will continue our coverage of Senior Art Exhibits, as well as guest exhibits, faculty shows and musical accomplishments.
More so than last year, the A&E desk is striving for the most complete coverage possible. We want to remind the ambitious artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers and thespians that our section of the Pacer is here for YOU.
We urge you not to shortchange yourselves. Our section is here to tell your stories, and we're anxious to tell them. So don't be afraid to call us and tell us if you have something planned. Even if it's not considered a "campus event," we're dying to cover it. Oh, and you'll get your picture in the paper too.
Furthermore, A&E would only be half complete without Entertainment. We're going to do our best to keep you informed on what's going on ahead of time in relation to concerts, contests, dining and debauchery.
A new section, entitled "The Longview," is going to highlight recreation happening outside of Martin. We're hoping this section will keep you filled in on potential road trips, which we feel are a vital part of the college experience. Granted, we won't be telling you what's happening in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so if your urge for adventure takes you further then you're on your own. Our coverage will be sticking to events happening close to us in the Southeast.
Lastly, our reviews of cinema, pop culture and lifestyles will continue although coverage will become more stilted as the student achievements and cultural guests start rolling into high gear. Just remember that our ears are listening and our eyes are open. We are ready for what promises to be one hell of a year.
We're ready to listen. Drop us a line.
