The UTM volleyball team dropped an OVC match to Tennessee State 3-1 (23-25, 20-25, 26-22, 25-14) Friday night at Kean Arena.

Neither team could take more than a one-point advantage to open the match until Britany Wilburn and Taylor Noland blocked a Tennessee State attack, giving the Skyhawks an 11-9 lead. Tennessee State pulled back out in front though and eventually took the set 25-23.

The second set also opened with neither team able to take more than a two-point lead. UTM knotted the score at 12-12, but that was as close as they could come. The Tigers went on to push the lead out to as much as five at 22-17, and held that margin for the set win at 25-20.

Wilburn continued to show her offensive prowess, recording the first two kills of the third set for UTM. The Tigers went on their first run to build a lead at 7-4. UTM then took its first lead of the set at 11-10 on a Tigers hitting error. Tennessee State worked its way back in front by four at 16-12. Another Hitt kill sparked a four-point Skyhawk run to tie the set at 16-16. Tennessee State responded back with a four-point run of its own to lead 20-16, only to see the Skyhawks again go on a run to tie the set at 21-21. UTM continued its run to take the third set 25-22.

Errors plagued the Skyhawks to open the fourth set, allowing Tennessee State to take an early 7-2 lead. They continued building the lead until it reached a double-digit margin. Tennessee State held on to take the final set at 25-14.

On Saturday, the team was unable to avenge an early season loss to Austin Peay, dropping its second match of the season at the Dunn Center this season. The Lady Govs took the match 3-0 (19-25, 16-25, 23-25) and UTM's overall record fell to 4-14 overall and 2-4 in the OVC.

Austin Peay moved in front 4-1 to open the match, but the Skyhawks worked back to tie the set at 5-5 on a Doherty block. The Lady Govs responded to push the lead back out to four at 13-9. UTM again battled back, cutting the lead to two on several occasions but were unable to get any closer than that as Austin Peay went on to take the opening set 25-19.
