Letter to the Editor 1
Ron Peckham
Issue date: 11/18/08 Section: Viewpoints
To the Editor: I would like to respond to the letter by Jared Stanley that was published in The Pacer on November 11. Mr. Stanley, after dissecting Obama's broad base of support with all the finesse of an 8th grade biology student, you charge that one of the "groups" you simplistically define voted purely on race and deride that group's "audacity to talk about racism."
Given your condescending and sweeping generalizations, I ask you, how do you have the audacity to talk about racism?
Additionally, while you allow that the youth vote was largely inspired by the great progressive issues of our time, you denigrate these to non-issues by smearing the youth as "uninformed."
I see by your letter that you are informed in all the leading issues for a Bush voter circa 2004, so I thought you might like to compare notes with one of the 66 million Obama voters of 2008.
Perhaps you are uninformed that the government of Iraq has in the past year repeatedly called for the redeployment of our troops. We now defy a free government for whose establishment and protection over 4,000 American soldiers gave their lives -lives which you claim to respect and honor.
Perhaps you are uninformed that a young child in Maryland recently died of tooth decay which spread to his brain because neither his family nor the state could afford an $80 dental procedure. Millions of children like him are being deprived of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as their parents are swallowed into the growing ranks of the unemployed and uninsured, indeed due to those pocketbook issues which you suggest are separate from societal and moral considerations.
Perhaps you are uninformed that the endless fights over gay marriage such as the shameful Proposition 8 in California concern the right to private civil contracts for consenting adults. Civil marriage under any definition cannot infringe upon a religious denomination's right to forbid certain unions among its parishioners or in its sanctuaries, whereas you would have the religious doctrine of some made law for all.

Mr. Stanley, after what you have said, it would not want me to be a christian. You are just like every other jerk out there.. So if your goal in life is to lead people to christ, you have failed greatly! If you ever plan to go to the ministry, please save a congregation and not preach. (Continued…)

This reply is to Howie. Please don't let the ramblings of one person turn you from Christ. We are all just human after all. We all make statements that come from our view of the world. (Continued…)

If you want an idea of Mr. Stanley just look at the video of him posted to his profile on facebook. In my opinion that says it all, flips off the camera, swears, is drinking beer, completely comfortable in the situation. (Continued…)
