Efforts to cut costs on campus have brought a new change to faculty and staff.

In a campus-wide e-mail sent by Chancellor Rakes, staff and twelve month faculty are expected to report a day of annual leave, personal leave or compensatory time previously banked overtime worked.

The intention is to save energy by cutting power and lowering the temperatures in buildings across campus. The e-mail stated that all departments would need to update their phone messages prior to leaving for holiday break indicating the closing.

However, not everyone is required to take the day off. Some perform services that must be provided on campus. Those include police protection, heating and weather related services, student housing and animal care.

When is this day supposed to be? Is it over the holiday break? This makes some sense, and might save a few thousand dollars campus wide.
