"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" is not your typical Tom Hanks movie.

Usually his movies have some sort of scenario where he is the one doing the action.

Not this time.

This time it is a nine-year-old who takes the lead.

Oskar Schell, portrayed by big screen newcomer Thomas Horn, is the son of Thomas Schell, played by Tom Hanks.

One day, a year after the September 11th attacks in which his father was a victim, he finds a key that his father left behind. After discovering the item he goes on a journey trying to find out whom it belongs to, why did his dad have it, what it means, and what lock it opens.

Along the way he meets many different people that come from different walks of life, like the Renter (portrayed by Max von Sydow) who doesn't speak at all due to traumatic circumstances.

One relationship that was strained throughout the movie was the one between Oskar and his mother Linda, played by Sandra Bullock.

The sudden death of his father brings about many questions for him that he and his mother can't explain. By him overcoming his fears and having no explanations for everything, his relationship with her changes.

The movie's characters deal with the things that everyone has happen in their life throughout the movie: the death of loved ones, trying to make sense of the world, divorce, the relationships between people, and the overcoming one's fears.

The one thing you're going to have to look out for if you go to watch this movie is that you have got to pay close attention (the reason being is that there are many flashbacks that are critical to the plotline).
