Career Day has brought many great opportunities to the students of UTM for many years.
This year's career day will be Thursday, March 1 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. There will be approximately 65-70 employers in the UC on that day. Represented at career will be businesses ranging from schools to police departments and accounting firms to manufacturing plants. There will be a little bit of everything and something for everyone. Lunch time will be a good time to come because that is when the most employers will be there at one time. All of this will take place downstairs in the UC.
There will be plenty of information on potential careers and this will give a person an opportunity to meet employers face to face. It will give you a chance to ask employers questions about careers, internships, summer jobs, and full time positions. There is also another incentive on coming to career day. There will be a drawing a six different gifts will be given away.
This career day has been consistent on giving students the opportunity to find jobs for many years. In 2000 there were 110 employers making that the career day the biggest in UT Martin history. But after nine eleven the numbers started dropping.
Slowly but surely the attendance is growing and has been and average of 65-70 employers in attendance for the past four years.
In addition to the career day on Thursday, there will also be an interview day on Friday. This will give employers the chance to interview people that they were impressed with and might consider giving jobs too.
"If you are serious about getting a job dress professionally and bring your resume or portfolio," says employment service worker April Boals.
Career Day is sponsored by and put on by UTM Employment Information Services. For further information or any questions about Career Day contact April Boals or Candace Goad at 881-7740.
