Editorial: Keep thoughts from Earth Week all year

Environmental concerns have been in the headlines and on the minds of Americans for sometime now. Whether or not they agree with the majority of scientists studying the issue most everyone now at least knows about global warming, or as it is more appropriately called, global climate change.… Post the First Comment

The Pummeling Pen

The Pummeling Pen

To my dearest UTM:

I'm sorry. It's not you, it's me
It's time I keep moving on Four years ago, I did not even know that you existed. However, fate brought us together and I decided to move cross country from my beloved Pennsylvania for you. The trip was a long one, and I did not know anyone when I got to Martin.… 2 Comments

People in your corner make all the difference in college

During my two short years here at UT Martin, I've had the good fortune of meeting and working alongside people who have helped me and challenged me in more ways than I can name. I've learned a great deal from my professors, both in the English Department where I'm rounding out my minor studying mostly modern and twentieth century literature, and of course in the Communications Department.… Post the First Comment

Memories, people define college life

With graduation closing in, I have been reminiscing quite a bit lately about the time that I have spent here at UT Martin. There have been good times and bad times, mostly good though. The memories that I take from this place will stay with me for the rest of my life.… Post the First Comment

Vigilance, fairness essential qualities for SGA, Faculty Senate leaders as UTM moves forward

In the four years I've been at The Pacer, I've seen UT Martin change enormously. The physical landscape has changed considerably since I was a lowly assistant news editor in 2004: The university has razed dorm after dorm making way for more modern, visionary student housing that will surely recruit higher-quality students in the future.… Post the First Comment

Appreciate moments where life becomes the antagonist in life story: Overcoming hurdles makes bitter taste sweeter

One of the most important lessons I can appreciate as holding the most substantive value while here at UTM is this: I realized who I am, what I am all about and how much I can endure in order to realize a dream. Granted, those seem trivial to most people because of the Hallmark card quality behind them, but I am at a loss of words (for once) for truly expressing the meaning of my college experience.… Post the First Comment

In the Counselor's Corner: The Stress Free Zone: Why Do We Do It?

Most of you know that during the first four days of final exams each semester, the Counseling Center sponsors something called the "Stress Free Zone." For four afternoons, we establish a space in the University Center where students can make stress balls, get a chair massage from a licensed massage therapist, play games, eat a free snack, do arts and crafts, and generally hang out and have a good time.… Post the First Comment

UTM priority should be to protect students

It was a warm spring day and it felt great. So, I went through the usual routine that I go through on a beautiful day. I woke up 15 minutes before class started, panicked, and threw on a shirt, some shorts, and my sandals. After winter, nothing, at least in my opinion, feels better than the sunlight bearing down on my feet.… Post the First Comment

Coaches are coaches, not parents

A college coach's responsibility entails guiding his or her team to victory through practice and critique. Coaches train their players both mentally and physically to prepare them for their matches. In the college arena, coaches are also responsible for keeping their players moving forward in their studies in order to remain eligible according to NCAA requirements and to graduate from college.… Post the First Comment

Letter to the Editor

Regarding the coverage you gave the animal rights activists during the 40th annual UTM Spring Rodeo, I think it's interesting that a handful of people with the nerve to criticize the behavior of their fellow Americans always seems to get media coverage. Therefore, their message is amplified for a mass audience to perceive that it is a message of significance, while not much is said of the 40-year success of an athletic program that has put UTM on the map.… 10 Comments
