On Wednesday night, Aug. 29, there was a crowd of residents standing in the breezeway of UV Phase II with assistant housing director Ryan Martin, ready to begin a glow stick war.
The rules of the game were simple. Each team had one hour to find as many glow sticks as possible. Different colors of the glow sticks represented different amounts of points, the lowest being five points and the highest being 50 points. Residents broke up into teams of no more than 10 people and brainstormed witty names for their teams, such as “The Maniacs” and “Bazinga.”
“Tonight is going to be organized chaos!” said Joi Vincent, a senior biology major.
The glow sticks were hidden all around the housing facilities and the teams broke up to find them. Within time, teams began to trickle back in to where they began to turn in their points to see if they had found enough glow sticks to win. After all the points had been tallied, the winners of the glow stick war were “Da Bears” of Browning Hall with a grand total of 675 points. The team will enjoy a pizza party for winning the war.
Everyone who came out to the glow stick war appeared excited to be out and about, mingling with others.
“I didn’t want to be bored in my room all night, so I came down here to have some fun and meet new people,” said Taylor Davis, a freshman Integrated Studies major.
By seeing the success of this event, students were able to see the success of housing in terms of getting students involved on campus and helping them find comfort in meeting new people. The residents who came out were bustling with conversation and enjoyed a nice, cool night hunting of glow sticks and making new friends.
