After many rumors, it can finally be said that sorority lodges are coming to Martin.
The sororities that have put down the $50,000 deposit for a lodge are Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Omicron Pi and Chi Omega.
Zeta Tau Alpha and Sigma Alpha are also looking into the logistics of funds and possibly buying into a lodge, with Sigma Alpha looking to get Agriculture sponsors to help with their share.
Each sorority has agreed to not exceed a maximum of $500,000 for each lodge. As of right now, the lodges will be located off West Peach Street close to University Courts and The Reserves.
After much debate, UTM decided to go with an architect from Memphis to design and oversee construction of the lodges. The lodges will be fairly similar with small changes on the outside to distinguish between them.
“I am working with the groups on helping to facilitate meetings and financing for each,” said Charley Deal, assistant Vice Chancellor of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. “Breaking ground will hopefully be this fall (Fall 2013), with the completion of the lodges being in spring of 2015.”
The draft plans and a mock layout were set up at Quad City during Homecoming in Sorority Village for alumni to stop by and have a glance as to what was coming for Martin Sorority Life. The alumni all seemed pleased and excited for the girls to get to experience the full essence of Greek life and all that it entails.
For more information on the lodge, contact Nancy Yarbrough, interim vice chancellor for Finance and Administration, at 731-881-7800 or Deal at 731-881-7610.
