“Peace, Love, and the 60’s” is sure to be a very entertaining theme for the 2012 SAC Lip Sync Competition.
The Lip Sync contest will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the parking lot beside Pacer Pond. If bad weather should occur on Tuesday night, the contest will be rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Elam Center at 8:30 p.m.
All organizations are welcome to participate in the competition. The UTM Homecoming Packet can be picked up at the Dunagan Alumni Center or the Greek Life Office. Lip Sync applications and music are due in the SAC Office, UC Room 213, by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
In recent years, many organizations have constructed huge backdrops and props. However, this year there is a twist; SAC is limiting all stage props to the size of a normal chair. This will make the setup time between each group go much faster, assuring there is no down time during the show.
“I am very excited to see how the Greeks are going to be able to handle not having big backdrops,” said Jesse McNeel, SAC Executive Chair.
Lip Sync skits for each organization should be no longer then five-seven minutes in length. Since it is UTM Homecoming, UTM should be reflected in the lip sync skit as well as the “Peace, Love, and 60’s” theme. Movies, music, television shows, commercials, toys, important events, dress and style of the 60’s can all be included in the lip sync skit, such as referencing the Civil Rights Movement or the first man on the moon, or using artists like Aretha Franklin, The Beach Boys and The Beatles.
“This year is going to be cute since the 1960’s is way out of our age range. Everyone will have to be very original,” said McNeel.
There are sure to be plenty of hippies with bell-bottoms and love beads, so come prepared to enjoy the night as UTM student organizations take you on a journey to the 1960s.
