Get ready UTM, because Humans vs. Zombies is coming back to the UTM campus on Sunday, September 16.

This moderated game of tag has been played worldwide since it was first played at Goucher College in 2005.

Humans vs. Zombies came to UTM after Student Activities Council member and host of the Humans vs. Zombies game, Jesse Kowalewski, proposed it as something students might enjoy doing. He was right, as many fellow UTM students have played and loved the candid excitement of the game.

“I originally found out about Humans vs. Zombies from browsing the Internet for some fun college games. Other schools have their own version of the game, so I adjusted some of the rules for our own campus game,” said Kowalewski.

It has been for students. This will be the third semester that Humans vs. Zombies has been up and running on the UTM campus. The popularity of the game shows as the number of students participating has steadily increased. Numbers have risen with over 250 students having registered to play in the previous two semesters. As a result, the Student Activities Council is only expecting a greater turnout of at least 200 more students signing up this semester.

Like any other game, rules do apply and must be followed for the safety and fairness of all who are involved.  Zombies must wear bandanas on their heads, and humans must wear them around their upper arm.

This game is a great way to meet people and make new friends, along with having a lot of fun. The semester is in full swing now and mid-terms are just around the corner, so a fun activity is good for students.

Whether someone is a Zombie or a Human, comradeship is the key to winning. Humans must work together at all times to evade being tagged and turned by the growing number of Zombies, and Zombies must turn the unsuspecting Humans into a fellow Zombie.

The mandatory meeting and sign up will be in Watkins Auditorium at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sept. 16. The game will start on Sunday, Sept. 16, and go on until Thursday, Sept. 20. Any required items, such as bandanas, will be provided at the meeting.
