A gaming society, OGRE officially means "organization of games and role-playing enthusiasts" and is a national organization, according to its web site: http://ogres.wikia.com/wiki/The_Ogre_Lair. The web site also shows that OGRE members "play a myraid of role-playing, board, card, party, and live action games," but the games played might be different from one chapter to the next.
The campus chapter of OGRE is being formed by Dale Norman, an Information Systems major, and will hold its first meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in 229 UC.
Norman was introduced to gaming by a friend and said he is starting the OGRE program because he "really enjoys tabletop role-playing games. I knew that there were others around campus, but I had no way of meeting them."
That was when Norman ran across the OGRE web site. After looking at the web site, he said, he realized that it was a national organization that was all about the things he liked. Then he contacted the national headquarters to get the information he needed to begin a local chapter.
Norman's initial goals for the group is to get the word out so that gamers can get together and then find other people who enjoy the same games.
"It doesn't matter what game you play; you should join so that you can find people to play with," Norman said.
Later, Norman said, he "would like to have an event on campus for others to see what playing our games is all about."
