The UTM equestrian team hosted two nationally ranked opponents, New Mexico State and Kansas State, on campus this past Friday and Saturday at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
Kansas State claimed a 5-0 victory in Reining to earn a 7-3 victory in the Western Discipline, while UTM earned a 7-3 victory in the Hunter Seat Discipline. No. 7 Kansas State won the overall competition as a result of the raw score, 1440.5 – 1304.50.
UTM Candice Fulcher, Michelle Chulock and Amy Guenther scored points for the Skyhawks in Horsemanship.
UTM won Equitation 3-2 as junior Kara Bergenty, Kaylan Herbst and Caroline Cramer scored points.
Cramer, a junior from Florida, led the Skyhawks to a 4-1 victory in Equitation over Fences with her 83-point ride and MVP honor. Hunter Ralston, Katie Miranda and Bergenty also scored in Equitation over Fences.
UTM suffered a 10-8 setback to No. 8 New Mexico State Friday.
The Skyhawks won the Reining event 4-1. Carly Lamb led the way with a 68.5-point ride and the MVP honor. Also scoring in the event for UTM was Kathryn Gorsuch, Fulcher and Chulock.
New Mexico State swept the Horsemanship 3-0, but the teams settle for a 4-4 tie in the Western Discipline.
In the Hunter Seat Discipline, New Mexico State won the Equitation, 4-1. Herbst scored the lone point for the Skyhawks.
Bergenty won the MVP honors in Equitation over Fences and the Skyhawks claimed a 3-2 victory, but lost the overall Hunter Seat
Discipline, 6-4, to New Mexico State.
UTM returns to action Feb. 11, when it hosts perennial power South Carolina at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex.
