The Skyhawks won against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, with a score of 6-0. The whole team did a great job, and #11 Abi Sanvee did excellent, scoring 3 of our goals and two unassisted. This game was also senior day and during half time, our two seniors were given special recognition.
The announcer said “these two seniors have combined for 20 goals, 18 assists and 58 points in their careers, and have led the Skyhawks to 24 wins in the past two seasons: the most in any two-year span in program history."
“The first senior was a member of the 2011 All-OVC Newcomer team last season and has tallied nine goals with one assist in 40 career matches at UTM. She has registered four game-winning goals in her career, including the game-winning goals in her career, including the game-winner of Friday night at Jacksonville State that sealed a share of the OVC regular season title, from San Francisco, Cal., Midori Sear," said the announcer.
Also, other seniors were recognized.
“The other senior is the daughter of Andy and Brenda Wilson. She ranks in five top-ten career categories in the Skyhawk record book and will become the program’s all-time leader in matches played this afternoon. She currently leads the OVC with seven assists and her 17 career assists rank second in UTM history. She is also the only player in Skyhawk history to have been a part of all three of the program’s OVC championships, from Collierville, Tenn., #23 Kendyl Wilson,” said the announcer.
The game was a blow-out. By the second period, it was pretty clear who was going to win. So much so that a puppy decided to run onto the field during the second period and stop the game. Everyone thought it was cute, but he was quickly returned to his owner and the game began again. The team did an amazing job, and the last point was scored by #11 Sanvee with an assist for #18 Jessica Horvatich. It was windy the whole game, and many fans thought this could cause a problem for our girls, but once the first period finished, all worries had left about any chance of the Eagles catching up.
UTM will host the 2012 OVC Soccer Championship, which will be played at Skyhawk Field on Nov. 1- Nov. 4. No. 1 UTM will battle the winner of the SEMO/Belmont matchup in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. Admission is free and live stats will be found at utmsports.com.
