Extracurricular activities provide opportunities for students

Students learn more than education throughout their college years. They learn more about what interests them, and who they truly are.

Some students come right out of high school knowing what they want to do in life and what type of people they want to hang out with in college. Then there are some students that don’t have clue about what career they are passionate about or who is going to be the one standing next to them in their wedding. I think a good way for students to learn more about themselves is through extra-curricular activities here on campus.

There are several different opportunities for students to engage in extra-curricular activities, such as Greek life, intramurals at Campus Rec, clubs and athletics. Extracurricular activities run throughout the entire school year and each organization from any area holds several exciting events each semester. I think students should be involved in not only one organization but several different ones as well. Being involved in different organizations allows you to meet different types of people and experience different opportunities.

There are a couple of different good reasons for being involved in extracurricular activities. One reason is it boosts confidence. It’s always helpful when doing anything challenging to have a team of people on your side supporting you. Organizations here on campus can help students grow as individuals in different types of atmospheres.

Another positive from being involved on campus is connections. You never know who you might meet when joining an organization. It could be an organization that has prestigious alumni, or just a friend you make that has a well-known family member. Connections can sometimes determine jobs or not, and connections come from who you get to know while in college.

I think being involved on campus in anything extra-curricular can be beneficial to all students here at UTM. Organizations here on campus help make memories that no student can forget; everyone should try at least one organization!
